How GenFlick credits work
You only pay for what you actually generate. Credits flex with your usage — light browsers pay pennies, heavy creators pay fairly, nobody overpays for a flat plan they don't use. Here's the whole system in five steps.
Sign up — get 10 free credits
Create an account with Google. Postgres adds 10 free credits to your balance the moment your user row is inserted. No credit card required.
Generate — your balance drops live
Click Generate on a scene. We optimistically deduct the credit cost on the client so the studio's credit pill updates instantly, then call the AI provider in the background.
Top up — without leaving the studio
When you run low, the credit pill turns amber. The Approve & Animate button auto-swaps to a 'Get N credits to animate' CTA that opens the in-app purchase modal — no context switch.
Stripe checkout — credits land in seconds
Pay through Stripe Checkout (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link). Our webhook handler adds credits to your balance and the studio pill refreshes on tab focus. No reload needed.
Failed generation? Auto-refunded.
If the AI provider returns a failure after we deducted credits, our system automatically refunds them with a refund row in your transaction ledger. You only pay for successful generations.
Studio top bar
Your balance is always one glance away
The credit pill lives next to the provider switcher in the studio top bar. It's colour-coded so you know at a glance:
- 42Purple — plenty of credits, no action needed.
- 8Amber — running low (under 10). Time to plan a top-up.
- 0Red — depleted. Generations are blocked until you top up.
Click the pill anywhere in the studio to open the in-app purchase modal. Stripe Checkout opens, you pay, and the pill refreshes the moment you come back to the tab — no reload, no hunting for a different page.
Packs vs. subscriptions — pick what fits
Both add credits to the same balance. Subscriptions add credits monthly; packs are one-time top-ups. You can mix them — many power users subscribe for a baseline plus buy a pack when they're finishing a project.

Subscriber benefit
Overage billing — keep generating, settle up at month-end
When a subscriber exceeds their monthly plan allotment, GenFlick doesn't cut you off mid-edit. We let you keep generating; each extra credit is recorded and billed at $0.10 per credit (50% margin) as an overage line on your next renewal invoice.
- No mid-period interruption — your scenes finish.
- Visible live in the /account dashboard so you're never surprised.
- If you hit overage two months in a row, the next plan up will probably save you money — the per-credit rate drops at every level.
- Free-tier users can't accidentally rack up an overage bill — they hit a 0-credit wall and the in-studio purchase modal opens. No surprises.
Why $0.10?50% margin against our $0.05/credit vendor cost basis. It's a slight discount vs the Starter tier's per-credit rate (so Starter users in overage may want to upgrade), and a slight premium vs Pro/Studio (so power users have organic upgrade pressure).
